| The
FilteredService Software for Windows is comprised of
two key components. First, a small piece of software, known
as a "thin-client", installs onto each computer. Second,
a large database of websites determines which sites are blocked.
The database is maintained by FilteredService.com on our central
database servers, not on the end-users' computer, and is updated
daily.
Once the software is installed on a computer, all website requests
are first routed through the FilteredService.com blocked-site
database. If the site is in the database, access to it is denied
and a Blocked Site window pops up on the user's screen. If the
site is not in the blocked-site database, then the user is released
from FilteredService.com to access the site at maximum speed
(unlike a proxy server, which does not release the user, but
routes all traffic through the proxy).
FilteredService.com has easy functions to report
sites for human review. An easy to use administrative (parental)
override is also available to disable the filter on a site-by-site
basis.
FilteredService.com works with every dial-up access,
broadband access (such as cable, DSL, ISDN, and satellite),
and networks. FilteredService.com functions with any browser,
including Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer and AOL. It
is compatible with Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me, NT 4.0 and XP.
